Michelle Bayer: Founder, Shelly Bay Music
Michelle Bayer founded Shelly Bay Music in 2002 to help generate income streams for songwriters, music producers and independent labels as well collect publisher earnings in the ever-changing music business. With an emphasis on Music Placements and Royalty Administration Shelly Bay has a decade of success under its belt. Prior to opening the doors of Shelly Bay Music, Michelle was the head of Tommy Boy Publishing and Tracking Manager at EMI Music Publishing among other positions in her long career in music. Shelly Bay Music provides music consulting, music placement, music publishing administration and royalty administration. Michelle is also an adjunct professor at Baruch College/CUNY teaching undergrads about today's music business.
Joe Berman: Co-Founder, MediaHorse
Joe Berman a native of Southern California, began his career in music soon after finishing high school as a songwriter and guitarist in numerous local rock bands. What followed has been a 25+ year career in various facets of the industry including A&R, production, artist management, marketing, and publishing. Joe most recently co-founded the Los Angeles based music publishing / marketing firm MediaHorse in 2010, which currently represents a roster of both established and emerging artists and writers, as well as various International and domestic labels, publishers, and music export offices in regards to creative licensing efforts. To this day Joe has coordinated and secured license deals for numerous artists, in various advertising campaigns for top brands such as Victoria’s Secret, Verizon, Trojan, Apple, Pfizer, Hilton, Nissan, Skechers, Volkswagen, Burger King, Honda, Mitsubishi, TGI Fridays, Sprite, plus many more.
Brandon Boucher: Creative Manager, Riptide Music Group
Brandon Boucher started his career in music at pigFACTORY in 2007 where his involvement spanned many aspects of the then-still-young company, but his passion for bringing new artists to the roster eventually narrowed his focus to a dual role as Manager of A&R and Creative. Throughout his time there he focused on signing new artists and writers, organizing co-writes and showcases, and pitching songs for sync placements and artist cuts. In addition to continuing this work at RMG, Brandon also co-chairs Synch This! – an LA-based networking group composed of over 200 members representing the music licensing community, from music supervisors, publishers, labels, sync licensing companies and more.
Hannah Cox: Director of Licensing, Entertainment One Music
Hannah Cox, Director of Licensing for America's top independent music brand Entertainment One (eOne), graduated from Belmont University's music business program. Working in artist management, A&R, publishing and licensing, Cox has more than seven years of professional experience in the industry. Boasting a catalogue of more than 50,000 masters and operating offices in 13 countries, eOne is one of the world's leading independent entertainment companies specializing in production, acquisition and distribution of film, television and music. This year alone, Cox has been instrumental in placing eOne's catalogue within shows such as Californication, NCIS, Parenthood and Girls, and in the upcoming feature film Gone Girl.
Darren Drew: Partner, In the Groove Music
Darren is the heart and soul of In The Groove. His enthusiasm is obvious; it permeates every facet of every project. You will find his imprint on every job we do. He fills his spare moments with other passions: working out, designer clothes, designer coffee, and raising two curious kids.
Michael Fey: Owner, Shoot The Noise
Michael’s career in film and television music includes ten years as Director/Vice President, Music Creative Affairs at Walt Disney Pictures, where he made significant contributions to countless films and soundtracks, including The Sixth Sense, Crimson Tide, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Princess Diaries, Pearl Harbor and Remember The Titans. As an independent music supervisor, he has handled many music-driven projects, including Kelly Clarkson’s musical for Fox, From Justin To Kelly, The Reagans for Showtime (nominated for seven Emmy’s) and The Pixar Story, released by Disney and Pixar. Since moving into creative licensing in 2008, he has placed hundreds of songs in films, television, ad’s and video games. In 2011, he founded music and media company SHOOT THE NOISE.
Amy Kenzer: President of Licensing & Administration, Black Toast Music
Amy Kenzer is the President of Licensing & Administration for Black Toast Music. Amy has been with the company since 2003. Amy began her career in the music industry in 1991 at Chrysalis Music Publishing. She handled all aspects of copyrighting, licensing and publishing administration. After 5 years at Chrysalis Music Publishing, she moved onto the music clearance end of the business, working as the music clearance manager for Sony Pictures Television and was responsible for clearing the music for many of Sony’s high profile shows including “Party Of Five”, “Dawson’s Creek”, Mad About You” and “The Nanny” to name a few. Additionally, Amy held a position handling the music clearance for noted Los Angeles based music attorney, Steve Winogradsky.
Rachel Komar: Founder, Extension Music
Hailing from Chicagoland and residing in Los Angeles, Rachel Komar has been working in various aspects of the music industry for over the past decade, including A&R, Management, Supervision, Licensing, and more. Komar has previously held positions at Secret Road, American Recordings, and Atlantic Records, to name a few. In 2012 she launched her own company, Extension Music, a licensing company that helps place music in Film, TV, Ads, and other medias. Extension Music strives to expose musical artists from around the world, while supporting their right to maintain ownership of their music.
Shauna Krikorian : Co-Founder MediaHorse
Shauna Krikorian is the co-founder of MediaHorse, a music marketing and licensing firm that specializes in the creation and placement of music in TV shows, trailers and advertising campaigns.
Under MediaHorse, she also consults for various music publishers on non-traditional marketing strategies and practices. Prior to co-founding MediaHorse in 2010, she worked as the Vice President of Creative for Opus 1 Music overseeing all licensing and creative initiatives for its catalogues. In 2006 she was named Director of Film and TV Licensing for 615 Music where she played a leading role in the development of the “Scoring Stage” series, which became widely prominent in the film advertising market.
Mike Locke: Senior Director, Licensing & Business Development, INgrooves
Mike Locke leads the synch licensing efforts at INgrooves and its publishing division and helps develop the roster. Since the fall of last year, he’s been instrumental in securing placements across all media including a major campaign for Google, numerous TV shows and a recent trailer spot for the film St. Vincent, starring Bill Murray. Mike co-founded Silver Side Productions in 2011, a successful music licensing, publishing and digital label company where he signed labels and artists and enjoyed landing songs into ad campaigns (Subaru, Budweiser), major motion pictures (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Pt. 2”, “TED”), Television (“Grey’s Anatomy”, “American Idol”, “Parenthood”) and video games.
Bob Mair: CEO/Co-Founder, Black Toast Music
Bob Mair is the CEO, Owner, and Founder of Black Toast Music and Black Toast Records. A noted musician/composer/producer, Mair founded Black Toast Music in l990 as a leading independent music publisher/production music library and record label based in Chatsworth, CA. Black Toast also supplies music to TV specials and TV movies as well as high profile motion pictures, including “Neighbors”, “Tammy”, “Begin Again”, “American Reunion,” “The Oranges,” “Arthur,” “When In Rome,” “I Love You, Phillip Morris,” “Dead Silence,” “Jiminy Glick,” and others; videogames such as “Dance Dance Revolution” for Konami; Internet and National advertising campaigns such as those for Domino’s Pizza, Microsoft, Walmart, Whole Foods, and numerous, multi-media presentations.
Sean Mulligan: VP, Film Television & Media, Rock Steady Music
Sean has been marketing and promoting music as a publisher and music executive for over 20 years. Based in Los Angeles, he currently represents a roster of established international indie artists, composers, record labels, and music publishers for music placement and licensing at Rock Steady Music. Sean ha licensed hundreds of songs for film, television, promos, trailers, ads and video games with all major studios, networks, and agencies. He is also an active music supervisor working on feature films and consulting for agencies and brands in broadcast.
Monique Roy: Owner, Regime Entertainment Group
Monique Roy is a songwriter, television producer and owner of Regime Entertainment Group LLC., a successful music licensing company. She’s Associate Producer on the platinum-award winning talk show Lifestyle Magazine seen by more than 4 million weekly. She co-produced “Night of Amazing Women” a 2hr special for TBN and was Associate Producer on “Miracle at Gate 213” (aired on NBC Dec. 2013). Monique consults for musical instrument manufacturing companies, record labels, television and movie productions. With over 25 years of experience as a songwriter, producer and manager, Monique has developed relationships with top talent in all areas including production, songwriting, music publishing, festival/tour promoters, publicists, producers, and background singers/musicians at the highest level around the world.
Ty Salazar: Director of Film/TV Music, Position Music
He works closely with music supervisors, editors and producers to secure sync placements for Position's roster of bands and composers. With a background in A&R Ty is instrumental in the signing of new artists and musical works to Position's catalog. Ty has been working in music licensing and publishing since 2005 and has contributed to thousands of placements across film, television and advertising. Steven Scharf: SVP Creative & President at Steven Scharf Entertainment
Over his four decade career in the music industry, Steven Scharf has worked in nearly every possible aspect of the business. In 1991, after nearly 20 years of working as an independent record producer and head of A&R, he launched his own management and consulting firm Steven Scharf Entertainment as a joint venture with legendary music publisher Freddy Bienstock. Through this venture Steven has managed many highly successful record producers, artists, and film composers. Currently serving as Sr. V.P. Creative at Carlin America, he plays a central role in their licensing operations, as well as serving as a key consultant for new signings and catalog acquisition. Steven is also a founding member and V.P. of the Music Managers Forum-US and is a proud voting member of The Recording Academy.
Peter Shurkin: Vice President, Selecttracks/BMG Chrysalis
Peter began his career in artist management at Gold Mountain Entertainment working with artists such as Los Lobos, Bonnie Raitt and Rufus Wainwright, among many others. Peter is currently Vice President of Selectracks/BMG Chrysalis producing custom music and licensing/pitching music for film/TV/movie trailers and advertising. Previously Peter worked at Getty Images doing business development and music pitching. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Janet, daughter Violet, son Oliver and dog Mona.
Mark Thorsell: Director, Music Sync Licensing, Regime Entertainment
As Director of Music Sync Licensing for Regime Entertainment for over three years, Mark Thorsell has helped build Regime Entertainment into a premiere music sync library. Regime is not a "production library," our library consists of master quality music that you might hear on the radio or in a night club. Mark is the company's main liaison to the film and advertising communities, working with music supervisors and account reps to find the perfect piece of music to fit their current project. He also is a builder of Regime's catalog, helping to find top quality songs that will fit the unique and diverse music needs of films, television and advertising, including recent cuts on House of Lies, Bad Girls,Genius leaves the hood (a documentary about Jay z) and recently the "Promo music" for Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance."
Beth Wernick: Founder, Imaginary Friends Music Partners
Beth began her career in the music industry as a publicist in New York City, working with Iconic recording artists like Tom Petty & the Heart Breakers, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Ambrosia, Judy Collins, Tanya Tucker, KC and the Sunshine Band, War, and many others. After moving to Los Angeles, Beth formed Imaginary Friends Music Partners, a one-stop, Exclusive song catalog, which licenses the music of unsigned, Indy artists to TV shows, films, commercials etc. In 14+ years pitching songs, IFMP has had a wealth of song placements and gives full credit to the truly gifted artists, bands
and songwriters whose music she is honored to represent.
Adam Wolf: VP of Syncronization, Riptide Music Group
Adam Wolf began his career working on independent films as an assistant director and later producing film and music videos.
Adam founded Tunedata, a company that was a pioneer in digital delivery and storage of music that linked publishing companies up with the needs of music supervisors and producers. Adam later joined several independent music publishers as a synchronization manager. He joined global music pigFACTORY USA near its inception as VP of Creative. At pigFACTORY , Adam built and A&R’d an extensive music catalog including songs by The Turtles, Fatboy Slim, Iggy Pop, Dead Kennedys, Demi Lovato, Def Lepperd, Gemma Ray, Tesla, Black Flag and Jordan Sparks. pigFACTORY established itself as an international publishing administration company by affiliating with a large number of the world’s copyright royalty societies to collect publishing royalties ‘at source’ .
Lysandra Woods : Head of TV & Film Licensing, Third Side Music
Head of TV & Film Licensing at Third Side Music, an independent music publisher with a boutique roster of North American and International artists, composers, and labels, including Ninja Tune, Studio One, Tru Thoughts and Warp. She handles creative pitching to TV and Film and in her time at TSM she has licensed to a number of Film and TV projects, including: Blacklist, Walking Dead, Suits, Revenge, The Strain, Mad Men (Promo), Arrow, Hart Of Dixie, Californication, Twelve Years A Slave, The Rover, Laggies, Chef and Gatsby.
The 2014 Film & TV Music Conference One on One: Meet the Rep sessions have been expanded! This year we will have four separate, two hour sessions with song reps making this years sessions larger than ever.
These one on one sessions are scheduled 10 minute time slots in which conference attendees can meet with industry executives and discuss their music, ask for advice on their careers and gain insights from successful professionals in the industry. These one on one sessions are designed to be career counseling sessions for the attendees opt in for them. You must sign up for One on One sessions after you have registered for the conference.
All conference participants are responsible for bringing their own materials, for example if they want their music critiqued they need to provide their own head phones and digital music players. Each session is 10 minutes long, if an attendee is three minutes late for their scheduled slot we reserve the right to give their session to another attendee. There is no guarantee that these sessions will get their music accepted, licensed or purchased by our participants. There are no live performances allowed during these sessions.
