Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known as “Bad Bunny,” is a young urban music singer, most recognized in the Trap Latino subgenre. Originally from Puerto Rico, this talented artist has been surrounded by music since the moment he was born, which led him to have a passion for the art from an early age.
For Christmas and all his birthdays, Bad Bunny would ask his parents for music CDs: rap, reggaetón, salsa, rock, and of his musical influences, artists like Tego Calderón, Vico C, Marc Anthony, among others. Although his parents were not musicians, they never stopped him from growing and developing in the art and allowed him to have an early beginning, singing every time he had a change at school.
Bad Bunny never took formal music lessons or studied any instruments, but his passion led him to learn and perfect his talent on his own. He is a singer, composer and creator of his own songs by his own knowledge, and his music emanates a much more special internal rhythm that any musical training could have had.
So much was his love for music that he began creating songs and uploading them to the popular video site, YouTube, and sharing them on social networks, where his fan base began to grow. In mid- 2016, Bad Bunny joined Hear This Music, a label created by DJ Luian and Los Mambo Kingz and presented us with the hit “La Ocasión,” the anthem of Latin Trap music.
With the support of Hear This Music, the artist has achieved unprecedented success with singles such as “Diles,” “Soy Peor” y “Tu No Vives Así,” and has dominated the digital music world, reaching more than half a billion views in his videos on his official YouTube channel and sitting atop popularity lists on all digital music platforms.
This year, Bad Bunny demonstrated his already overwhelming power, influence and demand by dominating Europe with a 20-day concert tour during which he performed 23 sold-out concerts to audiences of thousands of fans, a monumental achievement so early in his career, which grows exponentially day by day.
Adding even more achievements to his book of accolades, upon returning from Europe, the singer- songwriter joined other stars of urban music at the Latin Trap Panel, part of the Billboard Latin Music Conference 2017, a great step and honor for any artist in his first year of career. During the week, Bad Bunny set a new industry standard by projecting excellence with his stellar performance during the 2017 Billboard Latin Music Awards, where he set the stage ablaze alongside J Balvin with their latest collaboration, “Si Tu Novio Te Deja Sola.”
Solidifying his stand as a rising star in the industry, the singer-songwriter received a nomination in the category of “Breakthrough Artist” to Premios Juventud. During the ceremony, he joined his colleagues Arcangel, De La Ghetto, Ozuna and Wisin to wow the audience with a show-stopping performance of their collaboration, “Escapate Conmigo Remix,” where he showcased his talent and performing skills alongside great names in the industry.
This year, Bad Bunny also conquered Argentina with two back-to-back, sold out concerts at the renowned Stadium Luna Park in Buenos Aires. The artist completely took over the country, stealing the hearts of thousands of fans with his hits like “Pa Ti,” “Soy Peor,” “Tú No Metes Cabra,” and “Tu No Vive Asi,” among others.
The artist began enjoying the results of all his hard work and efforts throughout the year, but the highlight of his 2017 was being nominated to the most prestigious awards ceremony in the industry, the Latin GRAMMY. Bunny received a nomination in the category of Best Urban Fusion/Performance for his collaboration with J Balvin, “Si Tu Novio Tu Deja Sola.”
His unmistakable voice and rhythm have led him to captivate numerous people, including his fellow artists, leading him to present several collaborations that are revolutionizing the urban genre such as “Ahora Me Llamas” with Karol G, “Báilame” with Nacho y Yandel, “Explícame” with Yandel and “Mayores” with Becky G. His reach is such that he transitioned to the general market, where he is already creating waves of revolution with his participation in “Know No Better Remix” alongside Major Lazer, Camila Cabello, Travis Scoot and Quavo.
However, his most iconic collaboration so far must be on Farruko’s “Krippy Kush,” which became an instant viral sensation in sales, streams and social media, with fans performing the #KrippyKushChallenge. The song continues dominated the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart for several consecutive weeks and its music video gathered over 10 million views in within 24 hours of its release. The remix of the song features Nicki Minaj and 21 Savage, and immediately became an unstoppable force in the general market, reaching millions of streams just days after its release.
In October 2017, Bad Bunny left an indelible impression on the stage of the Latin American Music Awards 2017 with an explosive performance alongside Becky G, presenting their most recent collaboration, “Mayores.” Then, in November, the artist celebrated an unforgettable night during Latin music’s most important award ceremony, the Latin GRAMMY. The artist stood out with an explosive live performance of his collaboration with J Balvin, “Si Tu Novio Te Deja Sola,” which Billboard magazine named as one of the best of the night.
Closing the year in style, the artist presented the first six episodes of TrapKingz, the first Spanish show on Beats 1, Apple Music’s global radio station. Then, as soon as 2018 began, Bunny celebrated being highlighted in Billboard Magazine’s Preview 2018, which positions him as one of the artists with the most potential for the new year.
With a short but stunning career, Bad Bunny has had colossal levels of success, with his music not only being heard in his native Puerto Rico or in Latin America, but also throughout the United States and Europe. Currently, Bad Bunny has almost a billion views on YouTube and an overwhelming number of visits on other digital platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and Pandora, which pens his as one of the top Latin urban artists of the moment and one of the pioneers of the Latin Trap movement.

Filming in Morocco was very special because it is the place I was born and grew up. To see Daddy Yankee, Dinah Jane, and French Montana, as well as Amanda Cerny and all the other amazing social media influencers enjoying Morocco and describing it as an experience of a lifetime was very rewarding for me.
