Our keynote program will begin the day with a mix of intimate interviews, dynamic presentations, and eye-opening demos as the leaders in the mobile entertainment field take the stage. Things will kick off with brief opening remarks from Program Chair Antony Bruno and Billboard editorial director Bill Werde.

Janus Friis, Co-founder, Rdio, Skype, Kazaa, Joost, Atomico Ventures
After getting his feet wet in the music industry through the creation of the Kazaa P2P service, Friis is now taking on the risky world of music subscription services with Rdio. The serial entrepreneur behind Skype an Joost will discuss why digital music services are a good bet, how mobile is the key to making such services work, and where the smart investments are headed in the rapidly evolving technology market. 

Christy Wyatt, VP, Software Applications and Ecosystem, Motorola Mobile Devices
Motorola turned its struggling mobile phone business around by going all in on the Android operating system and putting out the popular Droid line of devices. Wyatt has run developer relations programs with Apple and Palm, and is now focused on Motorola and the surging Android platform. In this presentation, she will outline the evolution of the Android technology, how Motorola devices are supporting it, and the new capabilities being made available to developers and others interested in innovating in this space.

Matt Murphy, Partner, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers
As the manager of Kleiner Perkins’ $200 million iFund, Murphy is responsible for researching and investing in mobile apps with the greatest potential. To date the iFund has provided funding to over a dozen companies, including music ID service Shazam, ad network InMobi, and the mobile arm of social games powerhouse Zynga. In this intimate interview with Billboard’s Antony Bruno Murphy will discuss the progression of the smartphone app market over the last three years, what new features and capabilities are driving the new round of innovation today, and where the smart money is going in the future. A must-attend session for any developer looking for funding and trying to read the tea leaves of the new competitive landscape.

Ge Wang, Co-Founder, CTO, and Chief Creative Officer, Smule and Assistant Professor of Stanford University’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics
The creative visionary behind such Smule’s hit apps like “I Am T-Pain” and “Ocarina” discusses the inspiration behind their groundbreaking apps in this exciting, energetic presentation. Wang will take attendees back to the drawing board, detailing how Smule breaks down the capabilities of the iPhone in the design of their hit apps and how to look at the iPhone from a developer’s perspective, using a mix of informative slide, real-life case studies, and entertaining demonstrations.

While the music industry is often criticized for being slow to adapt to new technologies and innovation, a new generation of music industry leaders has emerged that not only understands but embraces mobile and digital opportunities. This panel compiles the forward-thinking execs from the worlds of the major label, touring biz, management companies and more discussing recent mobile deals they’ve done and why, what they’re looking for in a developer partner, and how their content licensing strategy is changing to meet the demands of today’s ecosystem.  Topics:

Dave Stewart, Producer, Solo Artist and Mobile Music Consultant/Evangelist
His most well-known claim to fame may be as the silent half of the 80s pop sensation The Eurythmics, but Dave Stewart has left an indelible mark on both the music and technology industries as a songwriter, producer, app developer and technology visionary. He currently serves as Nokia’s Innovation Advisor and Chief Disruption Officer, has collaborated on the development of multiple music-related mobile applications, and most recently launched an online songwriting competition. In this inspiring, educational and entertaining presentation, Stewart’s passion for both technology and music will challenge both the music industry and developers to think differently about how they approach mobile app development, drawing on the creative underpinnings of both industries.

Five startup companies selected by Billboard’s editorial team and an advisory board of mobile and music industry experts will have 10 minutes to introduce their offerings on stage, offering a glimpse into the new technologies, business models and entrepreneurs that will shape the music and mobile landscape in the year ahead. Members of our advisory board will then offer their insights and analysis.

The day will close with another round of keynote interviews and presentations from the companies on the front lines of the smartphone revolution. From device manufacturers and platform providers, to developers, to companies providing the technologies that will make tomorrow’s apps vastly more useful and entertaining than anything we’ve seen to date.

The Echo Nest’s “Music Intelligence Platform” powers the music recommendation engines and playlist building tools for such digital music services as MOG, Play.ME and Thumbplay. More than 80 other application developers use the company’s platform for a wide variety of apps that include such functionality as music remixing, mashups, data tracking and analytics and more.

In this presentation, CEO Jim Lucchese will demonstrate how the company’s technology works, provide examples and demonstrations of apps successfully built using the company’s technology, and outline his vision for where both the Echo Nest and the mobile music app market is heading.

EVP, Clear Channel Radio & President, Clear Channel Radio Digital
Take a peek under the hood of the popular iheartradio Internet radio application from Clear Channel. In this fun and factual presentation, Harrison will dig into the data behind iheartradio.com—available on the iPhone, Android and Blackberry—for a numbers-driven exploration of what makes mobile music fans tick, as well as insights into how to best market an app. Harrison, who announced plans to leave Clear Channel at the end of the year, may even for the first time go public with his career plans.
